Russia calls international society for taking measures to cancel amendments to Ukrainian law "About Education"

Maria Zakharova/Russian Foreign Ministry press-service The international society should take all necessary measures to make Kiev cancel amendments to the law "About Education." This statement was made by the official spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, TASS reports. According to her, Moscow calls all governments to join for cancelling the new law.

She has mentioned that UN Human Rights Council, Consulting Committee for Council of Europe Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities and Expert Committee of European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and other international organizations to make a fair judgement to this law as soon as possible.

The diplomat has reminded that the new Ukrainian law contradicts all key principles of UN, OBCE and European Council and doubtlessly infringes commitments of Kiev to these international communities.

Russian Foreign Ministry has reported earlier that the new law has been already criticized by Warsaw, Budapest, Bucharest and Kishinev.
According to Russian diplomats, Ukrainian parliament members chose their main task to be stronger infringement of interests of millions Russian-speaking citizens in Ukraine, forced establishment of mono-ethnic language regime in the multinational country.

As Russkiy Mir has advised earlier, this law practically bans teaching on any language but the Ukrainian. According to this document, children will be able to study on languages of national minorities including Russian only in initial grades. Starting the fifth grade, all subjects of the school programme will be taught in Ukrainian only. This is the norm until 2020, and then Russian together with other languages will be excluded from the school curriculum at all.

Russian senators and State Duma deputies have already condemned the approved Ukrainian law About Education.
