Loveless by Andrey Zvyagintsev to be nominated for Oscars again

Russian Oscar Committee has proposed Loveless by Andrey Zvyagintsev to be nominated for Oscars, TASS reports. Film Producer Alexander Rodnyansky has stated that following the secret balloting, Loveless to represent Russia in Los Angeles. Rodnyansky thinks that the the reputation of the filmmaker and the fact that the film has several European awards played the key role in this decision.

Let us remind, three years ago Leviathan by Zvyagintsev was nominated for Oscars but the Golden Palm went to Ida by Pavel Pavlikovsky (Poland). Loveless has received the jury prize at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

Three Russian movies have received Oscars in its history: War and Peace (dir. Sergey Bondarchuk, 1969), Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears (dir. Vladimir Menshov, 1980) and Burnt by the Sun (dir. Nikita Mikhalkov, 1994).
