Sacramento hosts Russian Culture Festival

Tatiana LavrushenkoRussian festival was held in Sacramento, US, Diasporanews website informs. Its organizers were Orthodox Church of the Holy Ascension. The main task of the festival this year was gathering donations for gilding of domes. They need to be renovated as they were gilded almost a quarter of the century ago.

A concert was arranged as a part of the festive programme. Its bill contained Russian folk songs performed by the church choir. At this, only few performers speak Russian well, but this is not a problem at all.

Talented representatives of the Russian-speaking community came out to the stage, including very experienced performers. Young artists from various studios – singers and dancers, the smallest of them being a bit more than three years old. A popular Russian song titled Podmoskovnye Vechera and other romances and songs from Soviet films sounded at the concert. An artwork exhibition was arranged in the churchyard.

Pupils from Cossack cadet school and combat karate school managed by chieftain of the Cossack Union Stanislav Kholodkov demonstrated their skills.

There was also a fair where guests could purchase memorable souvenirs about the festival, books, Matryoshka dolls, napkins, craftworks items. People were treated with roast meat and dishes of traditional Russian cuisine.
