Russian Film days in Nice

© Flickr/m4tikRussian cinema running from Tuesday through Saturday in the French Riviera capital, The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation website reports. The 5th Russian Film days presents new features, old masterpieces and even animations made on the most famous Russian studio Soiuzmultfilm. Gosfilmofond and the city administration manage the event.

The festival program highlights include: Viking, a historical film by Andrei Kravchuk about medieval prince Vladimir the Great, thought to be one of the most big-budget movies in the Soviet film history, The Spacewalker by Dmitriy Kiselev about Russian astronauts preparing for the first space walk during the height of the Cold War, The Queen of Spades by famous director Pavel Lungin, et cetera.

Directors and actors will introduce their works.

Also Andrey Konchalovsky's films will be screened. In particular, festival visitors will see his last feature Paradise following three life stories during WW2 time. The film was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival. Another feature made almost 50 years ago - Nest of Gentlefolk, tells 19th-century Russian romance noble story based on Ivan Turgenev's namesake novel. Both screenings are timed with director's 80th anniversary.
