Russian volleyball team wins gold at European Championship

04.09.2017

All-Russia’s Volleyball Federation/FacebookA final match of European Volleyball Championship took place in Krakow where Russians took golden medals leaving behind the German team, TASS informs. Our team headed by the new coach Sergey Shlyapnikov before the final set destroyed all its rivals and played very brightly. In the first set our volleyball players despite rather timid game style of the diagonal hitter Maxim Mikhailov easily outplayed the German team with score 25:19. Many volleyball fans had an impression that the final game will be an easy one; however, they lost the second set. Russian sportsmen won the third set, but they lost the forth one again.

It was a tough game for our sportsmen, besides, German team had a brilliant player Gretser who got 27 scores at the end. The head coach Sergey Shlyapnikov took time-out during the tiebreak. After that, Maxim Mikhailov finally took the lead and Russians managed to bring the game to a successful conclusion.

It is noteworthy that Russian team did not meet any favorites expected by our experts, it seems like Russia had some guidance from above.

The next European championship will take place in Slovenia in 2019.
