Russia is discussing counter measures regarding the decision of Poland to pull down the Soviet monuments, as per the Izvestiya newspaper. Russian Foreign Ministry commented that these measures might be asymmetrical. According to the Foreign Ministry, Warsaw has to understand that these unfriendly actions will have aftermath.

The question about dismantling monuments comes up at all meetings with Warsaw and during all international panel discussions including OSCE, CSTO and others.

Meanwhile Russia is discussing possible variants of counter measures to be taken. These might be personal sanctions against politicians who initiated this law. Besides, these measures might affect economics.

It is worth reminding that the Polish authorities approved of amendments to the decommunization law. These amendments legalize dismantling or pulling down monuments, which “praise communist regime”, according to authors of the draft law. This definition comprises monuments in honor of the Soviet soldiers perished during liberation of Poland from the fascist regime. The Polish Parliament accepted these draft law on 22nd of June, at the day when Second World War began.

Earlier Russian senators proposed to impose sanctions on Polish Parliament members. The Kremlin advises that no decisions have been made yet to satisfy the senators’ request.
