The State Duma harshly criticized the new law on Soviet soldiers' monuments demolition in Poland

17.07.2017

Moscowjob.net/wikimedia.orgToday the President of Poland Andrzej Duda has approved amendments to the Decommunization Act that relate to monuments of the Soviet epoch. It regulates dismantling and demolition of those monuments that, according to the draft law authors, “praise Communist regime”. This definition also applies to monuments that were raised in honour of the Soviet soldiers who lost their lives liberating Poland from the Nazis. Polish Sejm passed this draft law on June 22, the day of beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

Polish authorities don’t respect the historical truth, and with this blasphemous act completely distort the history, Russian parliamentarian Sergei Zheleznyak has commented. Polish people have really suffered from fascism, and the people of Poland survived because of the Soviet soldiers' heroism. The parliamentarian has marked that the Polish government tries to do everything to cancel the memory of our nations friendship, and the feat of Soviet soldiers who at the cost of their own lives defended Polish people.

These action may provoke new neo-Nazism wave, and other radical movements in European countries, according to Zheleznyak. He is sure that while colleagues from NATO will approve this step, the intelligent and rational part of Polish and international community will condemn this act incompatible with human values that are so popular to discuss in Europe.
