Samantha Smith's birthady is celebrated today in Artek Summer Camp, TASS reports. The Goodwill Ambassador has written a letter to the fourth General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Yuri Andropov, who invited her to see USSR with her own eyes in 1983. Samantha was excited to visit several Russian cities and Artek also.

America's Youngest Ambassador tragically died at the age of 13 with her father In a plane crash. This year she would turn 45 years old. The current camp shift is called Samantha's Smile, and is dedicated to the US girl.

Following the annual tradition, Pease Post Office has just opened in Artek. Kids are writing peace letters to government leaders and public personalities today. This is an act of continuing Samantha Smith's peace activity.

The first action devoted to the American predecessor took place in Artek two years before in the memory of her tragic death. Children sent 2000 letters to major countries' leaders, including Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel, and others.
