28.06.2017

Syrian president press service, Telegram account
Syrian President Bashar Assad attended Russian military air base Khmeimim situated at the Latakia province, RIA Novosti informs. The Russian Army General Valery Gerasimov welcomed the Head of State. Afterwards, Russian soldiers showed Bashar al Assad around the territory of the air base and demonstrated the weapons at stock.

Later Syrian President tried out a role of a pilot of Russian Su-35 fighter jet. He climbed into the flight dock and sat in a pilot’s chair. A Russian soldier sat behind him.

It stands to remind that air base Khmeimam was opened in Autumn 2015 for conduction of counter-terrorism operation in Syria. Russian Military Space Forces performed more than twenty thousand operational flights and carried out around 80000 attacks on the Islamic terrorists’ positions for these years.
