Vologda is 870 years old!

Happykg/wikimedia.orgOne of the most ancient Russian cities celebrated its 870th anniversary on June 24, as per the city website.

Dozens of cultural, educational and other activities were planned by Vologda administration. The gala opening of the festival took place at the Kremlin square of the city.

Thirteen orchestra bands participated in the orchestra parades as a part of the Vologda Kremlin Fanfares’ project. The avenue of lace-makers at the territory of Vologda Kremlin accommodated 120 fans and professionals of this unique Russian folk art. A public lacemaking session was arranged there. Apart from Russians, guests from Australia and some European countries such as Croatia, Poland and France visited the Vita Lace International Festival.

Among the central events was The Voice of Crafts festival with its master-classes, contests and exhibition fair of works by folk artists and craftsmen. Different national communities’ representatives treated Vologda citizens with dishes of their national cuisines.

IX Centuries of Vologda theatre performance organized at the Revolution square demonstrated key moments of the city history. A large-scale concert and fireworks ended up the celebrations.
