Compatriots in Washington lit candles in memory of the outbreak of the WW2

Washington DC inhabitants held the Commemoration action for the Day of Memory and Sorrow in Russia. The day of the Great Patriotic War beginning was marked with the Memorial Candle action near World War 2 monument in the US capital, the press-service of The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation advises.

Defence sector delegation, Russian diplomats, and fellow nationals based abroad took part in the memorial action. Defence sector delegation has arrived to US to take part in National Committee for Missing Persons and Prisoner of War Affairs. American committee members have also participated in the event.

Wreaths and lighted candles were laid at the monument to soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War.

Let us remind you, today is the Memory and Sorrow Day in Russia - 76 years ago the Great Patriotic War started. It took lives of 27 million people. Various commemorative events are planned across the country and also abroad.
