A unique absorbent for remediation of oil spills’ consequences was invented by Russian scientists. Its effect is ten times stronger than its analogues applied at present time, RIA Novosti informs.

Authors of the development are specialists from Siberian State University of Science and Technologies named after Academician M. F. Reshetnyov. As per university workers, biological absorbent can be applied after oil-site accidents or emergencies at the motor transport companies. According to the scientists, one cubic meter of the absorbent is able to take up a ton of oil.

The absorbent consists of bacteria decomposing oil to simple components with no toxic properties. These properties were separated from the oil-contaminated soil.

During warn seasons, oil and oil products turn into carbon dioxide and water. Vegetation is fully restored. The contaminated soil is recovering for a very long time in natural surroundings. Besides, the absorbent does not require further collection and utilization, dislike its analogues.

Currently, scientists continue their work over the absorbent. They intend to facilitate the process of its application.
