Mirror International Film Festival in honor of 85th anniversary of Andrei Tarkovsky

RF Ministry of CultureMirror International Film Festival in honor of the well-known film director Andrei Tarkovsky started yesterday, 13th of June, as per Russian Ministry of Culture. It is hosted in the Ivanov Region - the native land of Tarkovsky for the 11th time already.

Tarkovsky Online contest is a new item of the festival agenda this year, the jury will be headed by film director Valery Todorovsky.

Ten movies will compete for the victory this year including works by filmmakers from Croatia, China, South Korea, Norway and Israel. Kantemir Blagov with his new feature Closeness that just received an award in Cannes, represents national cinema.

The jury comprises Hungarian film director Janos Szasz, Israeli actress Hadas Yaron, filmmaker and scriptwriter from Kazakhstan Zhanna Issabaeva. Our country is represented by actress Elena Koreneva. The chairman of the jury is Mexican filmmaker Amat Escalante.

Russian cinema makes a separate part of the contest programme. Bolshoy (The Big One) by Todorovsky, The Student by Serebrennikov, The Hostiles by Gigineishvili and other movies will be screened at the festival. Participants and guests of the festival will also enjoy watching the new movie by Pavel Lungin titled The Queen of Spades.

Charismatic poet Vera Polozkova heads a contemporary poetry section, which is also included into the festival agenda. The jury of young cinema critics judge the festival for the third time already.
