Iron Age settlement discovered in The Urals

Flickr/Dr._Colleen_MorganDuring their excavations in Nevyansk, Urals archaeologists have unearthed previously undiscovered archaeological heritage object, TASS reports. It is a very ancient settlement, allegedly dated by 10-4 centuries B.C.

According to preliminary estimates, the total area of the settlement is more than 1800 square meters with 40 centimeters of the cultural layer.

Archaeologists have discovered Gamaun culture pieces are regarded as the culture of the late Bronze Age - early Iron Age periods. Ancient inhabitants were engaged in fishery and livestock, had bronze processing skills and some knowledge of iron tools usage.

The discovered settlement is to be included in Sverdlovsk Region Inventory of cultural and natural heritage sites. It will be protected by the State.
