The Lev Tolstoy preserve museum Yasnaya Polyana welcomes Tolstoy Weekend theater festival, RIA Novosti reports. The festival starts with the musical drama War and Peace directed by artistic director of the Stanislavsky Opera Alexander Titel.

Plays by major Moscow theaters will be shown on the principal stage. On the other three stages Dmitry Brusnikin Workshop (“descendant” of famous Moscow Art Theater), Wheel Theater (Toliatti), Lunacharsky Theater (Sevastopol) and others will perform all coming weekend.

Most part of the stagings are dedicated to Tolstoy's masterworks. However, this year several plays based on other literature will be presented. For example, Mayakovsky Theater brings Fathers and Sons based on the novel of the 19th century writer Ivan Turgenev.

As for avant garde performances, the Liquid theatre from Moscow presents Green Stick choreographical fantasy based on Tolstoy's childhood memories.
The festival will conclude on July, 11.
