Two Russian movies to be presented in Cannes

17.05.2017

A shot from the film Closeness by Balagov70th Cannes Festival opens today. Russian cinema lovers expect to see two features, Loveless by award winning Andrey Zvyagintsev and Closeness by young and promising Kantemir Balagov.

There are 50 features set to participate in the competition. This year the festival jury is headed by famous Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar.

The director of the Institut Lumière and of the Cannes Film Festival Thierry Frémaux called Zvyagintsev “truly great cinematographer”. He expressed the hope that the new feature will attract a lot of attention in Cannes. Few years ago Zvyagintsev received Cannes award for the best script, together with Oleg Negin. But he hasn’t received the Gold Palm yet.

As we reported before, the debut feature Closeness by young director Kantemir Balaganov supported by Sokurov Foundation participates in Un Certain Regard program.
