Relations between Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches are very important, Pope of Rome Francis believes. He expressed his gratitude to Moscow patriarchy and Patriarch Kirill for everything done for this. According to him, he strongly believes in Russia and its people, TASS reports.

The high priest of Rome sees forthcoming delivery of the holy relics of Nicholas the Wonderworker to Russia as an example of such politics of collaboration. This can be called a rare and unique event, as the relics have never been moved beyond the city borders for almost thousand of years.

The relics will arrive at Russia on May 21 to stay until July 28. The holy remains will be placed for worshipping in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. Then it is planned to move them into one of the central cathedrals of St. Petersburg in July.

The Pope Francis explained that the reason why he was thinking of Russia setting off for his pilgrimage is not only because Russia occupies a special place in prophesies of Our Lady of Fatima. He said about this on board of plane flying to Portugal.

A visit of Pope of Rome to Portugal coincides with hundred’s anniversary of Holy Appearances of Mother of God. He will make his pilgrimage to the village of Fatima, where the first Appearance of Our Lady happened to three young women on May 13, 1917.
