Russian art at the 57th Venice Biennale

The official inauguration of the Russian pavilion exhibition Theatrum Orbis Terrarum took place at the 57th Venice Biennale. During the opening ceremony RF Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets and Adviser to the President Vladimir Tolstoy gave their speeches congratulating artists, project curators and organizers.

The exhibition curated by Semyon Mikhailovsky includes sculpture, installation, video and sound across three emotively connected parts by Grisha Bruskin, Sasha Pirogova and Recycle Group, as well as contemporary Russian composers.

Theatrum Orbis Terrarum was considered to be the first true modern atlas in XVI century. Nowadays aforementioned group of artists and composers tries to imagine and rethink the way contemporary world is constructed. One of the highlights of the show, Grisha Bruskin's Decorations Change project depicts social movements, while Sasha Pirogova introduces The Garden video installation where darkness converts to the light giving hope for the resurection.

This year International Art Exhibition In Venice is titled Viva Arte Viva. As per art critics, Theatrum Orbis Terrarum showpieces have a calling to introduce spectators to the new world philosophy that approaches new vision of the social and cultural issues.

As we informed earlier, The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts participates in Venice Biennale for the first time. The museum introduces the Man as a bird. Images of Travels project involving 15 artists's images on time and travel through the personal experience.

Viva Arte Viva will be open to the public from 13 May to 26 November 2017.
