Immortal regiment marched in Hanoi State University for the first time

05.05.2017

Patriotic movement of the Immortal Regiment took place in the capital of Vietnam for the first time, TASS reports.

The event was organized by Rossotrudnichestvo representative office together with Hanoi State University. The celebration was organized at the university premises. Almost 1,5 thousand people came out holding portraits of their forefathers participating in World War 2.

Melodies of war times were heard from everywhere. They were played by teachers and schoolchildren from schools at the Russian Embassy as well as students learning Russian in local educational institutions.

According to Ambassador of Russia to Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov, Immortal Regiment pays tribute of respect to those who lost their lives fighting for freedom, happiness and independence of their country. The diplomat has marked how important it is to see here children and grandchildren of veterans of the War for Independence of Vietnam together with descendants of WWII participants. He also reminded that eleven volunteers from Vietnam were defending Moscow in 1941.

The list of honored guests included heads of diplomatic missions and diplomats from CIS countries. All participants were presented with St. George ribbons.
