Russian Literature Week festival was kicked in New York on May 1, as per TASS. Rospechyat is an organizer of the event.
Many different activities were scheduled for the festival including a round table where essential questions about translation of books by Russian authors into foreign languages will be discussed. There will be also a presentation of Read Russia Literature Translation Award, The Russian Literature Matrix project and Russian Literature Translation Support Programme
Russian literature is presented abroad by famed writers, literary critics and publicists, such as Vadim Levental, Andrey Gelasimov, Pavel Basinsky, Maya Kucherskaya, Marina Stepnova and Vsevolod Bagno. The most acclaimed translators will take part in the festival as well. Book publishers, critics and many others will discuss questions of contemporary literary world.
It is worth reminding that one of the central festival events will become presentation of the first volumes in series of Russian Library issued in English by Columbia University Publishing House.
The venue for the festival is literary grounds around New York City. Among them are bookshops Book Culture, the campus of Columbia University and the Harriman Institute as well as various book and literary clubs.
Festival of Russian Literature will last until May 6.
