Denis Matsuev and Valery Gergiev opened XVI Easter Festival

RF Ministry of CultureXVI Easter Festival was kicked off in the Russian capital. Denis Matsuev and Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra guided by Valery Gergiev performed at the festival opening ceremony, according to TASS.

First concert was organized in the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Russian Vice-Premier Olga Golodets and Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky were present at the concert.

Vice-Premier has mentioned that organizers prepared many surprises for the audience. Various concerts will take place in seventy-six Russian cities this year.

Minister of Culture gave proper respect to the festival by claiming that its contribution to classical music popularization was difficult to overestimate. He has also remarked that Mariinsky Theatre concerts are always performances of international standards and classical music fans should obligatory attend them from time to time.

Music compositions by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Fyodor Glinka, Sergey Rakhmaninov and Igor Stravinsky were played at the concert as well.

The Easter Festival will be over on 9th of May.
