30.03.2017

RF President Administration

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Arctic the day before, according to TASS. He arrived at the Alexandra Land Island of the Franz Josef Land archipelago and held a meeting on development of the region. The head of state ordered the government to hasten the preparation process of social and economic development program of the Arctic Region.

In his opinion, it is necessary to cater for private investments in the partnership with the state in large infrastructural projects implemented in the Arctic. Besides, opportunities for international collaboration must be used more intensively. Vladimir Putin underlined that this Northern region remains the richest mineral reserve of the country.

Moreover, President reminded that proper protection of the Russian national interests in the Arctic must be provided.

Vladimir Putin and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev attended National park museum “Russian Arctic” and were acquainted with technologies of perpetually frozen soil studies.

President and Prime Minister could evaluate results of the overall cleanup effort in the Arctic Region. Frost and cold wind did not prevent them from climbing the viewpoint. They watched the Arctic Ocean and the land, which had been recently covered with trash left after the region exploration in the Soviet period.
