All Sberbank offices resume operations in Ukraine

29.03.2017

Ukrainian affiliated branches of public joint-stock company Sberbank resume work gradually, TASS informs.

Press-service of the Ukrainian affiliated company claimed that almost all of the offices were unblocked already and restrictions on some operations and cash withdrawals to physical persons and legal entities imposed in the middle of March were lifted.

Nationalist parties and radical groupings demanded to revoke a license from Russian banks’ affiliates and ban their operations on the territory of Ukraine. The radicals used all possible means in their battle: numerous acts of vandalism and banks' property damage became something of a routine. They blocked entrances to financial institutions. The radicals called bank depositors for taking their savings from the banks. Police did not interfere with this situation.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree of imposing sanctions on Sberbank and four other banks with Russian financing on March 16. After that, Sberbank Chief Executive Officer Herman Gref made a decision to sell the Ukrainian affiliated branch of Sberbank.

At the beginning of this week, Sberbank announced a signature of legal agreement about the sale of public joint-stock company Sberbank (Ukraine) to consortium led by Norvik Bank of Latvia and a private Belarusian firm. The key shareholder of the consortium is a British citizen Said Gutseriev, the son of RussNeft owner Mikhail Gutseriev.
