Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko approved sanctions against five banks with Russian state capital operating in the Ukrainian market, TASS reports. Sanctions were confirmed by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine the day before. Restrictions are imposed for a year against Sberbank, VS Bank, Prominvestbank, VTB Bank and BM Bank.

The restrictions will ban the banks from taking money out of Ukraine, as well as paying dividends and interest. Also returns of interbank deposits and loans, funds from correspondent accounts of subordinated debt are prohibited. The ban also concerns distribution of profits and capital of these banks.

At the same time, according to National Ukraine Bank, the sanctions will not affect private money transfers between Ukrainian residents and their counterparts who have accounts in national bank structures.

As we reported before, radicals from ultra-nationalist Azov Battalion demanded National Bank of Ukraine to withdraw the license from the affiliated branches of Russian bank. They also made an appeal for revoking the Ukrainian bank license at the Parliament. Extremists are blocking now Russian banks' offices and ATMs.
