Snap from Manhoff's footage of Stalin's funerals

Previously unknown video of the leader of the Soviet Union Josef Stalin’s funeral was recently published on web. The chronicle was introduced by US historian Douglas Smyth.

It was discovered that the video was made by U.S. Army Major Martin Manhoff. He made this incredible shooting of the gloomy procession from his balcony with a view to the Kremlin. During the authorized research in Manhoff’s archive located in his Washington home Douglas Smyth discovered also a number of photographs made in 1952-1954.

The ex-attaché, being a photography connoisseur, took pictures everywhere he went: in Leningrad, Murmansk, Yalta, and other Soviet Union cities.

Douglas Smyth believes that he has found the only independent footage of the Stalin’s funeral. Most likely this video was intended for US top leadership and Intelligent Services. The straightforward footage without any editing is so candid that it makes this turning point in the Russian history absolutely unique.
