The archive of the celebrated Soviet photographer Yevgeny Khaldei will be returned to Russia, according to TASS. Having been illegally exported to the US, it was kept there for many years.

Photographer’s daughter Anna narrated that she could have a look at the archive and select some photographic negatives and shots for the first time just the day before. They are all meant for the exhibition devoted to 100th anniversary of the master of photography. The opening of the exhibition Big Life of Yevgeny Khaldei is planned for April 3.

Works of Russia's greatest combat photographer, including pre-war pictures, photographs of the Second World War period and post-war shots will on display. One of the most famous pictures, a historic World War II photograph Raising a Flag over the Reichstag he took during the Battle of Berlin on 2 May 1945.

Photoartist worked timelessly, up to the last moment of his life. According to his daughter, Yevgeny Khaldei adored his job and loved the people with whom he walked through life.

The photo archive was exported to the US at the end of the last century. It took many years and long-term legal proceedings to get it back. New York lawyer Daniel Rothstein represented the interests of Anna Khaldei free of charge. The court delivered the final verdict only at the end of last year.

Now the archive is returned to its legitimate owner. The pictures and negatives are stored at the specialized warehouse with humidity and temperature level controls.
