Roberto Maroni, President of Lombardy – the Northern region in Italy, appealed to lift the sanctions against Russia, TASS informs. A politician from an opposition party Northern League noted that in case this political party wins the elections at the beginning of summer in Italy, the sanctions will be called off instantly.

The leader of one of the most economically developed Italian regions shared this news during his presentation at the seminar about Russian-Italian relations. The seminar organized by Get to Know Eurasia Association took place in Milan.

Sanctions’ regime cost Lombardy hundreds of millions of euros, the politician reminded. “Russia is our key strategic partner in combating terrorism”, the governor added.

It should be added that last year Lombardy Council members approved the resolution calling Rome to oppose European politics relating Crimea and supported the requirement to annul anti-Russian sanctions. 43 members out of 87 voted for those documents.

The seminar in Milan will open a series of traditional meetings organized by Get to Know Eurasia Association where prominent politicians and businessmen from Italy and Russia discuss bilateral relations. The similar seminar will be held in Genoa on Friday.
