Specialists will need around 7 years to restore monuments of ancient Palmyra, in the opinion of the leading researcher from the Cultural and Natural Heritage Institute Timur Karmov, who headed Russian expedition to the ancient city, RIA Novosti reports.

Karmov emphasized that it is too early to talk about starting renovation now, as military operations are not fully stopped in the country, and their aftermath can be seen everywhere. The expert noted that minimum two years is required to conduct preliminary field preparation works before starting restorations.

At this, Timur Karmov underlined that everything can be reconditioned; however, before starting actual work, we need to understand if this is necessary from the monument’s significance’s point of view. Besides, a financial factor should be considered here as well, i.e. how much financing is required for such works.

Russian scientist believes that if at least there are some remains of the monument, it should be restored. He also reminded that there are several ways to lead the reconditioning works, including full monument restoration, modern replica or geographical hologram image of the monument.
