Andrei Tarkovsky retrospective starts in Japan

Eight films by Tarkovsky are on the show as part of the yearly Russian Culture Festival in Japan, TASS reports.

Tarkovsky's works, most of which recognized worldwide as an art-house masterpieces, are currently on show in K’s cinema chain across 9 Japanese cities, including Tokio.

Andrey Rublev (1966), Solaris (1972), Stalker (1979), and some other works are presented to the viewers. All the films are demonstrated in Russian with Japanese subtitles.

Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan noted with satisfaction the great culture interest of the Japanese viewer for the Russian culture. There are various cultural events that continue through the country all year round, due to such an interest. 

The closing ceremony of the 11th Russian Culture Festival took place in December, 2016. Despite that, the last festival just closed, the new 12th Russian Culture Festival already rolls in Japan.
