Film director Andrei Tarkovsky fans can enjoy his art in a rather unexpected place – Russian Museum, RIA Novisti reports. An exhibition of his masterpieces will coincide with anniversary of the world – famous screenwriter. According to the organizers, few people know that Tarkovsky was fond of painting pictures apart from screening movies, which later became classics in the world of cinema.

Not so many of his paintings and drawings are available nowadays. They are stored mainly in the private collections. Various archive materials and documents will be displayed at the exhibition. As a part of the event, a retrospective of Tarkovsky’s films will introduce new audiences to these timeless cinematic landmarks.

The widow of Tonino Guerra promised to provide the Russian Museum with the movie of the Italian screenwriter, which was shot by Tarkovsky during his work over the feature The Sacrifice.

The exhibition will be opened at the Stroganov Palace in spring. Museum workers are sure that, though not so broad–scale, it is going to be very fascinating, especially for the devotees of Andrei Tarkovsky art.
