Maria Sharapova will hit the tennis court in the Mutua Madrid Open tournament

09.02.2017

One of the most distinguished Russian sportswomen Maria Sharapova will participate in the professional tennis tournament Mutua Madrid Open in the Spanish capital. It will take place at the beginning of May, according to IA Interfax.

Competition organizers provided her with a special official invitation. In their opinion, Sharapova is one of the best tennis players over the last fifteen years. They also recalled that Sharapova won the first prize of this tournament three years ago.

A message in Twitter regarding the participation of the Russian tennis player in this competition was decorated by a collage with inscription “See you in May, Maria”.

It is worth mentioning that earlier the International Tennis Federation disqualified Sharapova for two years for meldonium use. The athlete stated that she was not aware it was among the banned drugs. As a result, she missed Olympics in Rio, which was very hurtful since the only reward Sharapova doesn’t have yet is the Olympic Gold.

At the beginning of February Sharapova confessed that she had thoughts about quitting her career because of the health issues. At present, she is training hard for the competition in Stuttgart. It is unclear yet if she takes part in 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
