President of the RF Vladimir Putin presumes the negotiations with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzō Abe will contribute to the strengthening of relations between Russia and Japan, reports RIA «Novosti».
“The efforts you make contribute to a certain breakdown in the development of Russia-Japan relations”, said Vladimir Putin at the meeting with Shinzō Abe.
The Russian leader has arrived in Japan on his two-day visit today. The negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Shinzō Abe are held in Nagato, the Japan’s Prime Minister’s home town.
As it was reported by Russkiy Mir website, on the eve of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Mr. Abe claimed that he intended to put an end to territorial arguments existing between Japan and Russia (Japan lays its claim to four islands belonging to the Kuril Islands). Vladimir Putin, in his turn, underlined the importance of concluding a peaceful treatment between Russian and Japan and described its absence as an anachronism.
