The Court made the decision taking into account that Crimea is a not a state and cannot set up a claim to obtain the works of art. The Crimean museums are to prove their rights for the collection ownership at Ukrainian court instances.

It is to be recalled that the hearing over the case started in Amsterdam in early October. According to experts, the collection’ value might amount to 1.5 million euros. The collection contains gold and silver jewelry and ceramics and wooden items.

The exhibition of artifacts dated by the Scythian period was brought to the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam in early February 2014. The dispute over the exhibition arose after Crimea reunified with Russia following a 2014 referendum.

Governor of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov claimed yesterday that if the District Court of Amsterdam ruled that the Scythian gold artifacts should return to Kiev, Crimea would keep struggle for getting them back to its museums.
