State Historical Museum of Russia hosts Gods and Heroes of Ancient Greece exhibition

Photo: Ministry of culture of the RFThe exhibition entitled Gods and Heroes of Ancient Greece has started at the State Historical Museum of Russia, Moscow, reports Ministry of Culture of the RF website . Exhibits belonging to all genres of ancient Greek art, including sculpture, ceramics, metal items and coins are on display there. The exhibition is arranged as part of the Russia-Greece Cross-Year.

According to experts, the exhibition has become one of the highlighted events of this season. The exposition has over 130 unique historical items kept at Greek museums. Most of them are not often on display abroad and some of them were never brought to foreign countries before.

According to Minister of Culture of the RF Vladimir Medinsky, the exhibition proves the fact of good trust-based relations established between the two countries. Greece's ambassador to Russia Andreas Friganas, in his turn, described the exposition as a key event in the history of cultural exchanges between Russian and Greece.

Twenty five Greek museums offered some of their masterpieces to be shown at the exhibition. Director of the State Historical Museum of Russia Aleksei Levykin underlined that visitors to the exhibition can follow the development of Greek art starting from ancient times to the flowering of classicism period. He also expressed his confidence that Russian people have known a lot of items presented at the exposition since their childhood as they belong to world culture.
