“I Am an International Student in Russia”: How Foreigners Adapt to Russian Style of Living

06.04.2016

International students from Primorski Krai educational institutions came to the Vladivostok State University that hosted an International Student Festival named “I am an international student in Russia” focused on the adaptation of students coming from other countries to Russian life style and on the development of their creative skills. The participants of the festival that was held on April 4-5 read poems, cooked meals, danced and sang songs for two days.

This year students from 16 countries studying at 6 universities of the Primorski Krai took part in the event.

‒ “Not all of them managed to perform brilliantly but it is safe to say that both the artists and the audience enjoyed the performances supporting each other and interacting with each other. The Russian language was a means of communication uniting them, which is a comfort to know”, Natalya Milyanchuk, a juryperson and Vice-President of the Asia-Pacific Association of Russian Language and Literature Teachers, said.

The employees of the Far East Branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation were independent experts at the Festival and they initiated a special nomination to praise the participants who performed in the Russian language.
“It was our first experience in the field of arranging events for students from other colleges and universities”, Yulia Konovalova, president of the festival jury said. She went on to say “We would like that teams representing all the higher education institutions of the Primorski Krai have both Russian and international students in them as collective creative work contributes to the establishment of friendly relations between people of different nations and helps make cultural discoveries, understand and respect one’s neighbors. We are sure the Festival will host more participants next year in comparison with this year’s event”.
