The Pokrovsky Cathedral: From A to Z Continues

04.03.2016

Less than two weeks is left before the end of the application process for the children’s creativity competition The Pokrovsky Cathedral: From A to Z supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation. Until 15 March, the participants are to send their works about the elements of the Saint Basil’s Cathedral architecture. The museum will conduct additional tours to make it easier for children to understand the details of the building. The State Historical Museum and the Pokrovsky Cathedral Museum organize the event, with the company Mir Detstva (World of Childhood) traditionally joining the list of partners.

Not much time is left before the application will be closed; however, those who haven’t send an application yet have an advantage over those who had had. Due to multiple requests, it was decided to organize thematic tours dedicated to architecture of the cathedral. During such tours providing information about this unique building, the children will be able to learn about architecture of the 16th century.

The main goal of the competition is to popularize Russian history and culture among children and to improve their imagination. The competition will mark the 455th anniversary of the completion of the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat (or the Pokrovsky Cathedral) on 12 June 1561. You can find more  here.

This year the competition drew a lot of attention – the organizing committee receives around ten applications per day. The jury will evaluate works about unique architecture of this unofficial Russia’s symbol. The winners will be announced on 18 April – the International Day of Monuments and Sites. They will be awarded with prizes from the museum and the competition’s partners.
