Association of Korean Organizations to Promote Russian in Korea

Valentin Pak, chairman of the Association of Korean Organizations of Primorsky Krai, visited the Far East Branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation on 11 February 2016. The meeting was caused by a recent visit to Vladivostok paid by the winners of the first Russian-language Olympiad for schoolchildren in North Korea. The meeting was co-sponsored by the authorities, the Association of Korean Organizations and the Far East Branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

Officials discussed joint projects aimed at promoting Russian in Korea and the opportunities for teaching Russian in the region. “We are actively working to ensure controlled electronic access to North Korea to provide those wishing to study the Russian language and culture with necessary materials,” Valentin Pak said. The parties agreed to cooperate more closely in the future.

Valentin Pak is a well-known businessman and public figure in the Russian Far East. He is actively involved in establishing friendly relations between North and South Korea. He presented the library of the Far East Branch with books, including area studies, photo albums on the life in North and South Korea, and the complete works of the Russian writer Anatoly Kim.
