Odile Belkeddar, translator of children’s and young adult literature, has received a prize at the 10th Prix Russophonie award ceremony for her translation of Silver Coat of Arms, a novella written by popular children’s author Korney Chukovsky.
This year’s selections include radically different works by different writers, from children’s authors to Vasily Rozanov (Last Leaves translated by Jacques Michaut Paterno) to Belarusian writer Artur Klinov (Minsk, The Sun City translated by Jacques Duvernet) to the modern classical writer Viktor Astafyev (The Merry Soldier translated by Anne Coldefy-Faucard) to medieval expert Eugene Vodolazkin (Laurus translated by Anne-Marie Tatsis-Botton).
The award ceremony took place on 6 February 2016 in the fifth arrondissement of Paris. It was part of the Days of Russian Books and Russian-Language Literatures that once again proved Russian literature’s popularity with the French public. The translator received an original sculpture by Viktor Kryuchkov and a cash prize.
The literary prize, established in 2006 by the Boris Yeltsin Foundation and the France-Ural Association, is given out for best literary translations of Russian books into French, regardless of the authors’, translators’ and publishers’ nationality.
