'Miracle Child' to Help Chinese Schoolchildren Study Russian

01.02.2016

On 29 January the Far East Branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation in Vladivostok hosted a ceremony of transfer of Miracle Child (Chudo-Malysh), a set of educational materials for children that was commissioned and co-sponsored by the Russkiy Mir Foundation. The event marked the first meeting of the representatives of the International Linguistic School and Vladivostok Presidential Cadet School—two educational institutions with which the Russkiy Mir Foundation has been closely cooperating.

The date for the ceremony was chosen for a reason: both schools are planning to launch Russian and Chinese-language programs in 2016. Olga Shevchenko, director of the International Linguistic School, spoke about the idea of teaching Russian to Chinese students. The school specializes in teaching foreign students. At the same time, about 250 Russian cadets are studying Chinese at the Presidential Cadet School.

“We can and should work with schoolchildren. To us, the transfer of those discs is an investment into the Russian World in China for years to come. Today’s Chinese students and Russian cadets are not only language speakers, but also carriers of the values we stand for. Many years later, they will be the architects of Russian-Chinese friendship, and we have now laid the first stone in its foundation," Alexander Zubritsky, director of the Far East Branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, said at the ceremony.

Miracle Child is a series of interactive DVDs aimed at facilitating intellectual development in children aged nine months to seven years. The educational materials include animated videos with accompanying interactive games.
