Free Mobile Application Developed for Uzbek Migrants

26.01.2016

The Grint Center of Education and Culture with support from the Russkiy Mir Foundation has developed a crash course for labor migrants wishing to prepare for the state exam in the Russian language, history and legislation.

The course’s defining feature is its bilingual approach: all lessons and texts are presented and dubbed in two languages—Russian and the users’ native language. The lessons cover all topics required for passing the examination in Russian, history and basic legislation of the Russian Federation. The course includes easily-understood illustrations and quizzes.

“The demand for a course adapted for migrants has been very high,” says Alexander Ruchkin, director of the Grint Center. “We hope the initiatives for the development of mobile applications in other languages will continue.”

The course is aimed at Uzbeks. According to Russia’s Federal Migration Service, over 2,500,000 citizens of Uzbekistan live in Russia today. The application generated interest among the Uzbek diaspora who welcomed the free and easily-available study guide.

Thousands of people have already used the study guide. You can download the Android application free of charge here. The text version of the lessons (in PDF format) is available on the website of the Grint Center.
