Ice Sculpture Contest Held in Yekaterinburg

Yekaterinburg’s XIII International Ice Sculpture Europe-Asia Competition has concluded in the capital of the Urals, Yekaterinburg News reports. A team from Arkhangelsk won first place. Their sculpture, “The Joy of Victory,” illustrates that joy of the 1945 victory of good over evil.

The second place award went to a team from Kemerovo. Their ice sculpture was titled “Life Force” while third place went to a team from Japan for their work called “To Become a Free Dream.”

The judges agreed that there were qualities in the Japanese sculpture that surpassed the workmanship of the Russian team’s sculpture. Ultimately the ideology behind the 1945 victory made the Russian sculpture more impressive and earned it first place.

All of the ice sculptures from the contest are still available to be viewed at the main ice town capital in Urals. Ten international teams gathered for the competition. The teams represented Poland, Bulgaria and Japan. Representatives from Yekaterinburg districts were also in attendance: Artiomovskiy, Khabarovsk, Kirov, Nizhny, Novouralsk, Tagil and Yekaterinburg.
