Head of the International Olympic Committee Opens Sports Museum in Sochi

09.06.2010

President of International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge opened the Museum of Olympic Fame in the Russian Black Sea city of Sochi, the venue of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

The museum in downtown Sochi presented the sports memorabilia belonging to local residents who participated in the Olympic Games.

"Sochi has been transferring itself into Olympic city. We have seen the road construction, the building of the sports venues, but this museum brings something special to the town - the spirit, the memory of great sportsmen and competitions. It is very important for the city," Rogge said at the opening ceremony.

The IOC President visited Sochi along with the IOC Executive Director Gilbert Felli, head of IOC Coordination Commission Jean Claude Killy and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, who was in charge of the 2014 Olympics preparations, among other officials.

One more Olympic museum is to be opened in Moscow before 2014.
