Arkhangelsk Hosts Arctic Convoy Veterans

13.05.2010

Russia's northern port of Arkhangelsk is hosting veterans of the Arctic convoys which delivered food and military materials to the Soviet Union from Britain and the United States during the Second World War, Voice of Russia reports. Nineteen former Allied sailors together with Russian veterans have paid tribute to the memories of their comrades at the British war memorial and laid flowers at the Memorial Cross. Ninety-nine ships of the Arctic convoys were sunk by the Nazis in the war years.
