Pushkin Memory Day Held in St. Petersburg

10.02.2010

February 10 Russia is marking the 173rd anniversary of Alexander Pushkin's death. On February 8, 1837 the outstanding Russian poet was shot in a duel.

In St. Petersburg, many people traditionally gather near Pushkin’s house #12 on the Moyka embankment where the poet was brought after the duel and died three days later. In 1925 the house was granted the status of a museum.

Each year the museum marks this date with special events. This year’s program includes a concert featuring a children’s choir of St. Petersburg’s TV and Radio company, a choir of the Tikhvin monastery; poetry readings and lectures. Among other initiatives is a bus excursion “Pushkin in St. Petersburg”, an excursion to the duel’s location at the Chernaya river etc.
