Chelyabinsk Celebrates Chekhov Anniversary with Premieres

Art venues of Chelyabinsk region are to host a number of premiers to mark the 150th anniversary of a world-known Russian writer Anton Chekhov, a news website uralpress.ru reports. Among the plays staged by local theatres are Man in a Suitcase (The Puppet Theatre),The Seagull (The Chamber Theatre), Do you want to be my wife? (The Youth Theatre). This October the region will publish a unified schedule for performances and events dedicated to Chekhov’s 150th anniversary.

The first events marking the anniversary of the genius Russian writer took place in November 2009 in Sochi – a theatre festival entitled “Chekhov Days” gathered theatre troops from Taganrog, Rostov-on-Don, Moscow, Samara and Nizhny Novgorod.
