December 4 marked an opening of a first Russian Center in Romania at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.
The opening ceremony was attended by many high-profile guests including Russia's Ambassador to Romania Alexander Churilin, President of St. Petersburg State University Liudmila Verbitskaya, Deputy Executive Director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vladimir Kochin, General Director of Roman-Russian Chamber of Commerce Mikhai Maxim, representatives of Embassies of Byelorussia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Romania, scientists, students, journalists etc.
Speakers at the event pointed out deep-rooted cultural relations between Russian and Romania, about common Orthodox traditions, the past and the present relationship between the two countries.
The Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies was founded in 1913 and is the oldest educational institution of Romania. Each year the university registers a growing number of students, who are eager to learn Russian. As such, the newly launched Russian Center is aimed at promotion of the Russian language and at enhancement and support of training programs.
