The 51st Russian Center located at the Institute of the Russian Language within the Shanghai University of Foreign Languages became the fourth such center opened by the Russkiy Mir Foundation in China.
The official opening was attended by Consul-General of the Russian Federation in Shanghai Alexander Sharonov, Chairman of the board of trustees of Russkiy Mir Fund, president of the International Association of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature, Liudmila Verbitskaya, first deputy executive director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Sergey Morgunov, advisor of the executive director of the fund, Vladimir Litarenko, President of the Shanghai University of Foreign Languages, professor Tsao Demin, artists, representatives of social organizations and compatriot associations, university professors and students.
The Russian Center in Shanghai will promote deeper studies of the Russian language and provide information on the life of present-day Russia, its culture and art. It will also become a good educational facility not only for two hundred and fifty Russian Studies students of the Shanghai University for Foreign Languages, but for all students of this university as well.
Russkiy Mir has contributed more than 1,000 books to the Russian Center, ranging from Russian classics to the latest fiction books, as well as historical, reference and popular science publications. The center has special multimedia sets including software for learning Russian, videos and audio books. In the nearest future visitors to the center will have access to the largest Russian database called “Integrum.”
