On December 21-22, the first Russo-Korean Scientific and Practical Conference of Literary Translators between the Korean and Russian languages was held. The meeting of literary critics and translators from Russia and the Republic of Korea was organized by the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University and was supported by the Ruskiy Mir Foundation and the Korea Literature Translation Institute.
"The main objective of the conference is not to summarize the results, but rather to open discussions about the problems that exist today in translations from Russian into Korean and from Korean into Russian. The challenge is to make books more affordable and more desired by readers in Russia and in Korea," said Paul Leshakov, director of the International Center for Korean Studies of Moscow State University.
Themes of the reports presented at the conference were very diverse: they related to the history of translations between the Russian and Korean languages, theory and practical difficulties of literary translation in prose and poetry, promotion of Russian literature in Korea and Korean literature in Russia, etc.
