The Russky Mir Foundation opened two Russian centers in China on the eve of the closing ceremony of the Year of Russian Language in China.
The inauguration of the Russian center at the Dalian University of Foreign Languages was attended by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov and member of China’s State Council Liu Yandong.
The university, which was founded in 1964, today accommodates some 7,000 students studying foreign languages and international relations. The university cooperates with over 60 universities in 19 countries among which Russian institutions hold pride of place, including the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen, the Far-Eastern State University, Irkutsk State Linguistic University and others.
Another Russian center was opened at one of the leading Chinese universities — Jilin University in Changchun. Russkiy Mir financed the refurbishment of the office housing the center and handed over a collection of books and multimedia (about 1,000 items).
Russian centers are education and information facilities operating to special country-specific programs. They also provide a creative communication platform for scientific discussion, artistic events and informal communication between representatives of different cultures.
