Russian and South African Heads of State Meet at Kremlin

05.08.2010

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is meeting on Thursday with his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma, who has arrived on his first official visit to Russia, ITAR-TASS reports.

The talks are held in the Green Reception Room of the Grand Kremlin Palace behind closed doors. Taking part in the talks are Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Minister of Natural Resources Yuri Trutnev, who chairs a bilateral intergovernmental economic cooperation commission.

After talks in the narrow format, the heads of state will continue negotiations in a broader format to discuss bilateral economic cooperation, primarily in the areas of high technologies, power engineering, space exploration, defence and science. The delegations are also expected to address a number of international issues, including the situation in Africa, Iran’s nuclear program, Middle East settlement, and global climate change.
